LSX45 The 500+ MegaPixel Mega Monster

The most amazing camera ever!

Coming years from now...

The digital back to fully replace 4x5 film!

Warning: This could be called vaporware and might never come to production, but it is nice to dream!

We are considering a high-resolution digital back, which will be just what everyone has been asking for, and more! If you are interested, you may join the mailing list, contact us or just check back in a few years on the progress.

The current design goal is 96x120 mm to mate with 4x5 cameras, though it could be a bit smaller. Currently, people are most interested in color and 4x5, however mono can always be an option.

  • 4x5 inch low-noise, single-shot digital sensor
  • 16 stops DR; 20 bits
  • 500+ MP
  • BSI sensor
  • Base ISO near 50
  • International standard with Graflock mounting
  • Live view
  • User changeable filters, Schott BG38 and CM420 standard.
  • WiFi for remote viewing and control
  • Output to 32 bit DNG, 32 bit TIFF, LSR1 RAW, JPEG2000 and JPEG.
  • Media: CF and SD card slots.
  • Tethered operation, by CAT5 cable or WiFi.
  • Video may be possible.
  • All specifications subject to change

Issues: Adobe Lightroom has a 512 MP image size limit. Capture One can be used with large files.

Mountable on just about any existing 4x5 camera, such as a Graflock Back, also on 8x10 cameras. We will custom-mount it to most popular cameras if needed. If you are interested please send us a message.

Question: What is single shot?
Answer: It is taking the whole image at once, unlike scanning backs that take part of the image at a time.

We'll make the sensor from a 12 inch wafer. A square is the rectangle with the most area in a circle. Would you like an 8x8 inch sensor or one that keeps the 8x10 ratio? An 8x10 ratio might be 7.3 x 9.1 inches. The 8x8 would be a bit bigger than 8x8 and both sizes would be similar in pixels and more then 2GP.

One concern about 8x10 is the need to rotate, and in the field you might get some dust in.

Do you want a square 8x8 sensor or so you want a 7x9?
Color or monochrome?

LSX67 The 6x7 Digital Back

The smallerst digital back we might make

Perhaps Coming years and years from now...

We are considering a high-resolution, single-shot digital back that might possibly fit on existing 6x7 cameras. Or it might fit on custom cameras. It is harder to make a small camera rather than a bit one.

  • 190 MP
  • 16 stops, 20 bits
  • Near ISO 50 sensetivity
  • 56x67 mm sensor size
  • Still and Video modes
